The highest mountain in the Nilgiris, Doddabetta towers at over 2,600 metres high making this wonder quite a beautiful sight. Located only 9 km from Ooty, Doddabetta’s summit is easily accessible by road. Once you reach the top you can take in panoramic views of the Nilgiris at the observatory located at the peak.

Ooty Lake is another beautiful sight to take in and is spread across 65 acres of lush greenery. The artificial lake was constructed in 1824 and has become a tourist attraction with boating and picnicking facilities. If you are lucky enough to be around Ooty in the summertime, you can witness boat races and boat pageantry that provide delightful fun for the entire family.

Nilgiris Mountain Railway
Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the Niligri Mountain Railway was built in 1908 and is still operational. The trains go between Coimbatore, Coonoor and Ooty providing travellers with a new way to experience the beautiful countryside. Interestingly, a few of the stations on this line have been used in movies and television shows; for example, the Coonoor station was featured in the movie A Passage to India.

Pykara River
Located about 21 km from Ooty, the Pykara River consists of a lake, river and two waterfalls that are located about 1.5 km from the lake. This area is very popular with tourists who go to picnic and visit the falls. The entire area is surrounded by a forest which makes the trip eve more magical.

Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary
Considering all the amazing wildlife in the region, a trip to the Nilgiris is incomplete without a visit to the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary. Here you will find parrots, jackals, rhinos, elephants, black bucks and even larger jungle cats. This is perfect for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.
